Ballarat Community
The Ballarat Project straddling the Ballarat Creek (satellite image) tributary to the Yukon River is located in the Heart of the White Gold District of the Yukon Territory. The White Gold District has had s storied history of development and mining since the time of the first gold discoveries in the Klondike in 1896. The region is a considered a Tier 1 Mining Jurisdiction. Stakeholder currently holds a Class 1 exploration permit satisfying all requirements for the company’s planned exploration work initiatives.
Ballarat is also located on the traditional territory of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch’in and the Selkirk First Nations. Many of today's Council of Yukon First Nations Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin, or people of the river, are descendants of the Hän-speaking people who have lived along the Yukon River for thousands of years. The Selkirk First Nation is a First Nation self-government of the Yukon Territory. The original population community for Selkirk was the trading post of First Selkirk, of Yukon along the Yukon River, but most of its citizens now live in Pelly Crossing, Yukon.
The Government of Yukon and the Territory’s 11 self-governing First Nations are committed to the long-term responsible management of Yukon’s mineral resources, and to supporting a healthy extractive industry that adheres to high environmental and social standards. An independent panel has hosted a nine-month public engagement process to consider responsible resource development practices. Input was collected through regional online open houses, focus groups, a toll-free line, over 90+ meetings, two surveys, written submissions, a two-day session with elders, and more.
The panel used the extensive input collected from this process to develop the:
Yukon Mineral Development Strategy and Recommendations
This strategy provides a framework for sustainable mineral resource development that benefits all Yukoners while minimizing adverse social and environmental consequences.
The White Gold District is a major gold prospective region in Yukon, home to several active and proposed mining projects.
